Blog #17 February 27, 2019

Today Mr. Schick gave us a worksheet. We tried to go over it but Mr. Schick was lazy and didn't print the answers so we didn't know some of them. It basically covered most of Egypt and there vocab. I don't have the worksheet cause I think I turned it in but basically we just did this worksheet the whole time. And we got new seats.

Vocab- The delta is a very marshy region formed by silt. The King Narmar was the king of Lower Egypt. A pharaoh was an Egyptian god-king. A theocracy is a government controlled by religious leaders. A pyramid is a massive structure with a rectangular base and four triangular sides. Mummification is the process of embalming and drying corpses to prevent them from decaying. Hieroglyphics is a more flexible way of writing for the Egyptians. Papyrus is a tall reed that grows in the Nile delta.  Main Idea- 3. Living in a desert benefited the Egyptians because they would have a large space to grow there crops. When the Nile flooded, it would water the plants and leave silt which was good for planting. 4. The Egyptians viewed the Pharaoh as a God. 5. Egyptians mummified biddies so they wouldn't decay and would make a ceremony for them.

Today in class we learned we had a quiz tomorrow. We reviewed for the test. Cuneiform is the earliest form of writings. The Fertile Crescent covers Iraq, Iran, Syria, Jordan, Turkey, and Israel. The Euphrates and Tigris river are in the Fertile Crescent. Irrigation is the brining of water to people from all around. Polytheism is the belief in more than one God. A monarchy is ruled by the King. A dynasty is passed down through family.

Today in class we said the prayer. We met with a partner and did a paper on Hammurabi's code. We discussed it in class. We didn't really do anything besides this so I can't really write about anything else. Mr. Schick gave us a cream colored paper to do for homework. I really hope it snows tomorrow.

Today is Valentine's Day. We continued taking notes from the powerpoint and had a debate about paying for people in jail. In Mesopotamia, Sumerian gods represented nature. The world's first surviving story was the Sumerians "Epic of Gilgamesh." A ziggurat is a big temple/city hall in a city state. The wondering nomad's drove herds of animals. Sumer was conquered by Akkadians in 2350 B.C. King Hammurabi creates serious laws that they must follow called "Hammurabi's Code."

today class was only 4o minutes because we had a two hour delay. 200,000 yrs ago a human species emerged in southwest Africa. 14,000 yrs ago, a worldwide human race existed. The earlier pre-historic age is the Paleolithic Age, which was also called the Old Stone Age. The Neolithic Age, also called the New Stone Age, was marked by advanced tool making & beginnings of agriculture. As population increased from food surplus, more young children can be fed. The Hierarchies started to appear in village life. Sumer occupied the land between Tigris and Euphrates. The population;ation increased due to irrigation.

Yesterday in class, we continued talking about the notes we took from the textbook. Silt is a rich soil that is good for farming. It is left behind after the rivers flood and is a nice surprise to the villagers. The Tigris and Euphrates are the two rivers in Mesopotamia and they have unpredictable flooding, no natural barrier, and scarce building resources. The Sumerians were the first group of people to form a civilization. The five characteristics to a civilization are 1. advanced cities 2. specialized workers 3. complex institutions 4. record keeping 5. improved technology. They also grew barley and wheat.

Today in class Mr. Schick opened the window and at first I wasn't cold because I came from gym. Then I got cold and got my sweatshirt. We went over the tests and I finally got a ding. China was formed in 1000-3950 B.C.. Mesopotamia was formed in 1600-3500 B.C.. Ancient Egypt was formed in 2000-3000 B.C.. The Indus Valley was formed 1700-2500 B.C.. Cultural diffusion is the process in which a new idea or a product spreads from one culture to another. An empire brings together several people, nations, or previously independent states under the control of one ruler.

Today in class we had to read from the textbook and take notes. We started reading about Early River Valley Civilizations. The Fertile Crescent in the regions curved shape and the richness of its land. it includes the land facing the Mediterranean Sea. There are two rivers in Mesopotamia called Tigris and Euphrates.  Projects such as irrigation systems required leadership and LAWS. The earliest civilization formed on the Fertile Crescent. Polytheism was believing in more than one god. A dynasty was a series of rulers from a single family. Early civilizations formed bronze tools, the wheel, the sail, the plow, writing and mathematics. These spread through trade, wars, and the movement of people.

today in class we took a test. it wasn't that hard but I have no clue how I did at all. im hoping I did good but I guess we will see. I didn't take any notes so this blog is kinda boring and short. but we basically didn't do anything this class so yah.

so today I got to lead the prayer. I had to do it twice, because people were in the bathroom and I had to say it again. we got a blizzard in school but mr. schick would not open the window till the end of class. we continued watching the guns, germs, and steel video. they traveled in the same latitude so they would get the same weather and vegetation. Americans consume up to 20 million tons of wheat a year. they are over 100 million cows in USA. jared diamond thinks all races are fundamentally similar.
