The Etruscans settled Rome. The Greeks also settled Rome. The Greeks had many colonies around the Mediterranean Sea. The Latins originally settled in Rome first. Many of the streams flooded in the Tiber. The Punic war was fought between 264-146 BCE. There were three different ones fought. The farmers couldn't do anything so they moved to Rome. Julius Caesar lived Fromm 100-44 BCE and conquered the huge territory of Qual. Julius Caesar starts to rise in 60 B.C. Octavian forces the weak Lepidus to retire. After Octavian death, power was passed down to emperors.

Caesar started a number of reforms. He only served one year as consul. He then appointed himself as governor of Qual. There was additional food and luxury items left for the wealthy. Rome was now going to be inheriting all of the grain, olive oil, metals, textiles, slaves, wine, and wild animals.

Today we watched a video called "Guns, Germs, and Steel". The main guy in the video was Jared Diamond who is a professor at UCLA, a biologist, an author, and is passionate in the study of birds. He traveled to Papua, New Guinea to learn what it was like to live there. People have lived in Papua for over 40,000 years with a similar life style. Cargo stands for there material goods. Pre-historical times (about 13,000 years ago) everyone was a hunter or gatherer. Sago- staple food that comes from trees. Barley + wheat were main crops.

Today in class we had the whole time to work on our group projects. We have sculpture and we are making a plate, a hydria, and a type of vase. They were made in a kiln with clay and some were made out of wood. They were carved as well. The pottery stored wheat and meat and grains. They were also used to store ashes of children . The finest clay was called Attic clay, which was the best for making pottery. They put them in a temperature at around 960 degrees Celsius. The potter needed good timing so the vase would not uncolor.
