Today in class we took more notes for our test tomorrow. We learned that Cleisthenes was a member of a very elite and rich family. He made poor people have a voice for government. The citizens can now participate. A direct democracy is when a state is ruled by citizens. Agora is like a city hall or mall back then. Posiden is the god of the Sea. Aphrodite is the goddess of love. Dionysus is the god of wine. Zues is the ruler of heaven and earth. He is the God of weather. Spartans were known for their infantry. Spartan boys were trained from the time they were seven. In Athens, the trireme was a technological breakthrough. It was a 3 row sailboat for the navy with 170 men on each level rowing at the same time. A phalanx is a group of moving soldiers. In the Persian War, Greece won surprisingly.

Today we watched a video called "Guns, Germs, and Steel". The main guy in the video was Jared Diamond who is a professor at UCLA, a biologist, an author, and is passionate in the study of birds. He traveled to Papua, New Guinea to learn what it was like to live there. People have lived in Papua for over 40,000 years with a similar life style. Cargo stands for there material goods.
